Born and bred south of Boston, moved here by choice in 1990 to avoid the rat race, then created my own rat race here. I am a survivor of a heart attack and 5 stents. Still struggling as a husband and parent.

Carolyn was not a full service girlfriend. She was my fallback girl friend. She lacked the qualitys that I wanted and needed. So eventually I moved here and met and married my full service wife

A full service girlfriend

A full service girlfriend, Carolyn was not.

She was a manic-depressive who substituted Haffenrefer private stock beer and pot for the Lithium the psychiatrist prescribed. A combination that was mostly therapeutic. The beer came in a green glass bottle. She drank it one of two ways, through a straw or over ice. She preferred to roll her own joints but she also liked to use a pipe.

Although her thinking was frequently insightful it was also tangential and sometimes irrelevant.

Yes she liked to party. She could drink most people under the table. She was not stuck on Haffenrefer. As matter of fact she would try a glassful of whatever anyone else was drinking, Pina Colada, Margarita, Mimosas, Wine. Whiskey, Gin and Tonic, etc. She liked to go on trips. She was friendly. She traveled easily when she was in the mood. Although there were times she was not up for interacting with other people.

She was very family oriented. She helped take care of her ageing father. She doted over her grand children. She tolerated her eccentric brother who was trying to prove Telsa’s theory of sending electric power through the air.

She kept herself clean, she wore nondescript clothes, and you would have to describe her as plain. You could describe her as a cheap date. She was friendly and sociable but most of my friends described her as being crazy.

She fell short of being a full service girlfriend for the following reasons.

Only one time did she put on a nice red dress, heels, and tasteful makeup and fix her hair for a social event.

The infrequent times we were romantic she did not remember due to her consumption of alcohol. She was not always available or appropriate for those times when I would need a woman to accompany me to an event.

She was not the kind of woman that I would want to marry and have children with. She would not be a good role model for a son or daughter.

So she was my fall back girlfriend. The one I hung out with between the full service girlfriends I had until I came to West Virginia and met my Full Service Wife.
